There are two art galleries at The Langham for artists to display their work.
Our main gallery provides exhibits from accomplished artists from far and wide and
our community gallery gives a chance to local talent to show their work.
Our Curator, Kiara Lynch, will be happy to receive exhibition proposals
for both of our galleries on an on-going basis. Calls for submissions.

Visit often! Our exhibits change many times a year.
To view Floorplan.
Opening Hours: Thursday through Sunday from 1 - 4 pm

MAIN GALLERY 2010
Exhibition Schedule

June 4 to July 18, 2010, Wells, BC artist Claire Kujundzic
New body of work examines the tragic alteration to our Northern landscape resulting from the pine beetle invasion. This is a very powerful and moving look at an ongoing devestation of our forests.

July 23 to September 4, 2010, Boundary area artist Tajai Alexev
With her exhibition, "Essence", Tajai Alexev explores the states of imperfection and temporality by painting macroscopic tropical leaves  in a decaying state. Some of the background treatment includes
"infinite" repeat designs reminiscent of Muhgal miniatures or temple carvings of SE Asia. The recipient of a reward for the study and research of natural dyes and surface textiles, Tajai uses a paste
resist technique to bring empahisis to these states. She says, that in her exploration of textile practices, "The pieces that held the most relevance were the ones exposed to the elements in one or a number of
ways and for days at a time." These works conjure up 'memories' of the Old World - suggestive of trading cloths, maps forgotten in tombs and parchment.

September 10 to October 31, 2010, Apocalious
A new body of work by Vancouver based Metis artist, Willow Yamauchi. Willow' looks at the ongoing struggle between man and nature in a painting style reminiscent of a cross between modern 1st Nation art and Japanese manga.

November 6 to December 3, 2010, Nora Curiston
A mostly conceptual artist from Grand Forks. Her works range from whimsical to serious and invite not just second, but third and fourth looks from the viewer.

COMMUNITY GALLERY Open to public Thursdays through Sundays from 1 to 4 pm
The Langham Community Gallery began with a community iniatives grant for a project called 'Creative Community'.
The gallery's focus is on local, emerging artists and work is shown via solo shows or group shows open to all area
artists. Past shows have included a group of artists from Kaslo's Primary Care Centre, a group of recent high-school
graduates and the popular 'Art for the Earth' in celebration of Earth Day. Artists have ranged in age from 3 to 85 and
represent all areas of our community.

July 23-Aug 22: Shelley Ross (watercolour):

Shelley Ross' exhibition of watercolour paintings, "Lichens of the Kootenay Valley: Lovely, Luscious and Likeable" is the result of a year's exploration of the lichens that grow in this region. Although her academic background is in biology, in nature, she sees colour, form and patterns before species identification and classification.
Shelley is a self-proclaimed messenger for an under-appreciated life form. Her watercolours bring light to the unusual, intricate forms and beautiful colours provided by these organisms. Her work invites/ urges us, as viewers to carry the intrigue of her exhibition to the out of doors - to our great forests, where one can appreciate the myriad of lichens growing there first-hand.
